This is something I was thinking about recently. Not sure why this popped into my head, it just did.
A few years back, I met with a potential bride and her mom. We had a nice conversation. To the point I thought they would book, however, they wish to check with her fiancé, and since dad was writing the check, with dad also.
About 5 days later, I received a call from "Dad". He had a few questions. One of his main concerns was over the number of photos we deliver for a wedding. Dad stated that they met with another photographer who promised over 3,000 photos, while we would be between 800 and 1,000. He wanted to know why they should book South Street over the other photographer, considering the number of photos they would receive.

My response was something like this: "Dad, there is something we in the industry call 'spray and pray', meaning you fire the shutter repeatedly, hoping to get a few good photos. Would you rather have difficulty selecting 100 good photos for your album out of 3000 ok photos or difficulty narrowing it down to 75 from 1000 great photos?
I told him that we are very "clean" with our weddings, we know our "stuff" and don't need to over shoot to get great photos. We can see a scene before looking through the camera lens. We know how to set a scene so it appears natural and not posed. We know lighting and how to control it.
He thanked me for my time and mailed the check.
