eng 008 This was an engagement session we did at the Rutger Gym in Newark.  Our couple wanted this shot.  Them, both jumping for the basketball.

This is a little trickier then you would thing.  Timing the jump,  Getting the best angle.  Lighting the scene properly.

The angle was easy.  I wanted the look to be them in the air with an appearance of height.  He was much taller so we had to do the jump a few times the get the distance between then to look good.

As to the placement of the ball, I had him toss in the air a few times,  the ball was originally in the shot, bu difficult to get it exactly where I wanted it while they were jumping and trying to place the ball.  I added the ball later in editing.

The lighting: I wanted to remove or darken the background so the image centered on them.  The camera was set so the image would be dark except where they were lite by an off-camera flash just to their right so they were both lite well.
