Photographic Craftsman's Degree
As you may or may not know, I recently received my Craftsman's degree from PPA. The Craftsman's degree is given to a PPA member for merits earned for the education of other photographers. Giving my time to those who will become the educators of the future.
This degree wasn't something I strived to achieve. I was aware of the PPA degree system, just never really paid too much attention. I was totally unaware of my eligibility. You could say The Craftsman's Degree snuck up on me.
I don't think I fully understand what this achievement really means. I teach because I have a skill and knowledge that I know others could use and I enjoy the experience. It never occurred to me that my efforts would lead to a PPA degree.
I do this to give back. I have learned so much from, so many, over the years that, as I gained experience I felt it necessary to return the favor.
I can honestly say that I wouldn't have had the opportunity to do the things I have, over the years, without the knowledge I've gained from the many fantastic photographers that came before me.
As I write this it occurred to me that with a Craftsman's Degree under my belt, nothing will change. I'll continue to offer my experience when needed.
I will say, it is a wonderful feeling being recognized by the PPA for doing something I enjoy. Photographically and educationally.
Thank you to all the fantastic photographers, past and present that educated me along my career, for without you, I would not be where I am today.
